Home Interior Cleaning Tips

An unclean living environment can prove to be an unpleasant backdrop for our day to day lives. But getting your elbows dirty doesn’t have to be as stressful as it first appears, and below are some handy tips to help you on your way.

Let’s start small. We have all been a little too enthusiastic when dunking a biscuit into cup of coffee at some point, but it can go wrong! Cleaning coffee spillages is really simple. For carpets, sponge the spill with cold water and blot dry. If the stain is stubborn, reach for the shampoo. For your upholstery, sponge the stain with cold water then dab at the mark with laundry detergent solution. Rinse and blot dry.

To clean your upholstery in a more general sense, be sure give the cushions and arm rests a vacuum once a week, to keep it looking nicer and newer, for longer. If you are having a sofa cover crisis, simply pull them off and clean them. But crucially, remember to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If the covers are washable, replace them when they are slightly damp to recreate the original shape and fit.

Now to the Kitchen, potentially the messiest room of them all. The everyday tasks are fairly obvious, as for hygiene purposes it is advisory to keep food-preparation areas sparkling clean, so wipe down the work surfaces before and after every use. For tiles, opt for a powerful piece of cleaning equipment to blow away grubby dinner stains. Steam cleaners are easily rentable and will keep the walls looking shiny! Uncompromising laminate stains can be cleaned with cream cleaners or a paste of bicarbonate of soda with some drops of chlorine bleach. For stains on solid wood surfaces, regular oiling is necessary to prevent the wood soaking up any water, so it is best to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations carefully. Steady rubbing with a cloth dipped in washing up liquid solution should clean the wood, but be wary of thicker spills such as tomato or curry sauce as if they are allowed to sit on the surface they can prove tough to remove. Fingermarks on stainless steel surfaces are easily wiped away with a microfiber cloth, and be sure to avoid any abrasive materials which would scratch the surface.

Be sure to set yourself manageable goals when cleaning your interior, and aim to clean as you go. Learning techniques to break through the urge to procrastinate can save yourself having all the little jobs piling into a big one!

Follow these useful tips and make your house a home again!

great tips – thanks! Wish I had a maid to do all that, though…
