Asian-Style Modern Bedroom Furniture: Defining a “Classic”

Aesthetic principles are dynamic, constantly evolving aspects of our culture. What “looks good” to us may not be so hip by the end of the decade. This was true even millennia ago, when artistic forms gave rise to new styles. Every once in a while, however, an “old style” is brought back to the forefront of interior decorating and modern bedroom furniture design, revised and slightly altered to fit the aesthetic philosophy of the modern age. This is what truly separates the “classic” design from a passing “fad.” Today, Asian-style modern beds have proven themselves to be true “classics.”

Asian-style platform beds have changed very little over the centuries. They may look strange to the average Western consumer, because they are so different from the four-legged, raised, over-decorated spring bed frames that we are so used to. Asian modern beds are designed from natural wood, and they are meticulously engineered to be incredibly sturdy and durable. This also has a tendency to make Asian-style platform beds very heavy. Luckily, thanks to modern production methods, most Oriental modern beds are very easy to disassemble and reassemble.

Their visual appeal is characteristically simple, but disarmingly so. The subtle textures, soft curves, and modest designs of these beds take on an almost organic quality of their own; an Asian style platform bed almost seems to “live,” and so it’s no wonder that they always appear to bring a room to life. The ornamental designs and shapes of these beds have been refined and perfected through centuries of use, and modern skilled craftsmen can manufacture these beds to be as authentic and wonderful as possible.

One of the nicer features of Asian modern beds is the fact that they let no space go to waste. They are not unnecessarily bulky, like your standard Western bed. They are large enough to give you plenty of sleeping surface, but they are small enough to be unobtrusive while maintaining their aura of focused sophistication.

With characteristics and qualities like these, it is no wonder that Asian-style modern beds are considered “classic.”
