Modern Bathroom Vanities Get Rid of Obsolete Plumbing

There are a lot of articles out there about modern bathroom vanities: how great they look, how important it is that you measure your bathroom before buying so you don’t get an under- or over-sized vanity, what kind of materials modern vanities are made from, why laminate or marble countertops are so good, and so on. So I will avoid these topics, and address instead the one thing that really sets modern bathroom vanities apart from traditional bathroom sinks, that no one really ever seems to talk about.

I am talking about the plumbing beneath the sink.

If you have a traditional bathroom sink, you know exactly what I am talking about: whether it comes in copper or PVC, the plumbing you ordinarily find under the sink and behind closed cabinet doors is not just an eyesore, it’s an organizational hazard. This bulky and unsightly plumbing takes up a lot more space in your storage cabinet than is efficient. What may have once been a vanity cabinet with about four cubic feet of storage space quickly gets reduced to three cubic feet or less with a poorly designed piping and plumbing apparatus. And what about the shape of all this plumbing? It’s like it was intentionally designed to frustrate you and physically prevent you from storing all your bottles of shampoo and all your towels in the so-called “storage space.”

This is where modern vanities shine: since they often don’t come with cabinet doors, modern vanity designers have had to become quite creative with their designs, especially regarding the plumbing. Modern vanities feature sleek and elegant plumbing beneath the sink, and the appliance itself is never obtrusive or invasive. With modern vanities, you get all the free space you pay for, without the unsightly plumbing mess. Some modern vanities even come with built-in partitions that hide the plumbing altogether.
