Assessing the Popularity of Indoor Fountains

One of the more interesting trends in modern home design is the use of indoor fountains as decorative accessories. Indeed, installing a beautiful and natural-looking indoor wall fountain or tabletop fountain is more popular than ever, which is interesting in that fountains do not serve a “necessary” purpose in a home. Outfitting your house with upgraded kitchen sinks, bathroom vanities, beds and more makes perfect sense as all of these items serve a specific and necessary function. Indoor fountains are ostensibly little more than dynamic decorations, like a moving painting. So why all this fuss?

As it turns out, an indoor fountain is more than just an artistic feature in a home. And while I would certainly not go so far as to say “every home needs a water fountain,” they do offer a number of appealing peripheral benefits beyond being simply “house ornaments.”

Water fountains produce a sound that very much mimics the noise of a natural creek or, in some cases, a waterfall (it should be noted, however, that some indoor fountains have noisy pumps, so before you buy one, ask about the pump volume). This soothing natural sound infuses your home with a palpable sense of serenity. This idyllic environment is calming and relaxing, and is a great way to relieve stress after a long day at work. When’s the last time staring at a painting really calmed your anxiety? I’m guessing never.

Water fountains also act as natural humidifiers and air purifiers. They produce negative ions, which are particles that have a wonderful tendency to bond with and subsequently neutralize impurities in the air (including dust particles and potentially harmful bioaerosols). I’m not saying a fountain is a miracle cure for anything, but between its ability to mildly improve the quality of your home’s breathable air and its soothing natural sounds, it’s easy to see why indoor wall fountains have become such popular modern decorations.

We recently moved into a new home and the fengshui master told us we needed water elements in the house. Instead of digging many holes to make small ponds, we just purchased 3 water fountains and strategically placed them around the house. Master says it works just as well.

Indoor fountain is a great way to add a piece of tranquility in the house design. In regards to the feng shui comment. Yes, as long as there is moving water in the house, it will work.

with fengshui, apart from moving water, the positioning of the fountain together with other elements in the home is imperative.
