What’s Cool About This House 001

This is a new feature in which I display a picture of a nice home or part of a nice home and tell you what I like about what the owners have done to it

1. Indented wall shelf. Really good idea as it is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. Practical because unlike conventional shelves, this does not protrude hence allowing the sofa to be placed directly under without headspace constraint. It is also an extremely neat way to house decorative items.

2. Hanging white wall cabinet. Hanging cabinets are practical because they allow easy and unobtrusive access to cleaning under them. They also look pretty darn neat. The placement of this cabinet is excellent as it takes off where the indented shelf/mantelpiece ends giving good continuity and transition from one part of the wall to another

3. The painting to the right of the indented wall shelf. Note that the height of the painting is similar to that of the wall shelf. Again, this provides a feeling of continuity as it’s neatly coupled beside the wall shelf. The painting is the reason why the couch can be placed where it is placed currently, not aligned to the right end of the shelf. The painting provides the balance that is necessary.

4. Earthy wall tones complemented by the couch. I wouldn’t dare say that this is the prettiest couch i’ve seen but it blends well in this surrounding because it is simplistic, just like everything else in this living room and because the lighter earthy wall tones bring out the colour and depth of the couch itself.

I think it looks cool too. And yes, the hanging cabinet does make cleaning below it easier.
